A role of cellular translation regulation associated with toxic Huntingtin protein

Wed, Mar 25, 2020,   04:00 PM to 05:00 PM at Seminar Room no. 34, Second Floor

Dr. Amitabha Majumdar
Wellcome trust-DBT Intermediate fellow and Scientist-D at National Centre For Cell Science (NCCS), Pune

Abstract:

Huntington’s disease (HD) is a severe disorder caused by poly Q repeat expansion in the Huntingtin (Htt) gene. While the Htt amyloid aggregates are known to affect many cellular processes, their role in translation has not been addressed. In my talk, I will discuss how pathogenic Htt affects translation through probable sequestration of the translation regulator Orb2. I will also discuss how our observations using the Drosophila model might be relevant for human HD.
