Frequenty asked questions for the IISER Pune Integrated Ph.D. Program


Q1.  What is the mode of selection for the Integrated Ph.D. program at IISER Pune?

Selection would be made on the basis of an entrance examination followed by an interview. The written test will consist a combination of questions to test general aptitude and problem-solving skills along with questions on B.Sc. level Physics/Chemistry/Biology. 


Q2.  When and where would the exam be held? How long would I need to stay in Pune?

The entrance examination would be held at IISER Pune on 2-3 February, 2013 (Saturday - Sunday). The written              examination would be held on the 2 February, 2013 and the interviews of the shortlisted candidates will commence the same afternoon. Depending on the number of shortlisted candidates, interviews would continue on 3 February, 2013. The  candidates are advised to come prepared to stay in Pune for both these days.


Q3.  Will I be paid for my travel and accomodation expenses for attending the examination?

IISER Pune is not in a position to pay for travel or accomodation expenses for the applicants. The applicants would have to make their own arrangements to stay in Pune during the examination.


Q4.  I am yet to complete my degree. Can I apply for the Integrated Ph.D. program?

Yes, you can apply for the program if you are in the final year of your qualifying degree. Your selection would be provisional and you would be expected to submit your final marksheets before you join.  You would need to score atleast 60% marks at the completion of your degree to get admitted to the program.


Q5.  I am studying for an engineering degree. Can I apply?

Yes, students in the final year of their B.E./B.Tech. degrees can apply.


Q6.  Will all the applicants be called for the entrance examination?

The applications would be screened and only shortlisted applicants would be called for the entrance examinations.


Q7.  I have submitted my application. When will I know if I have been shortlisted for the entrance examination?

All shortlisted candidates will be informed by e-mail in the first week of January 2013.


Q8.  When will I know if I have been selected for the Integrated Ph.D. program?

The applicants selected for the Integrated PhD program would be intimated by e-mail within a week of completion of the interviews. A list of the selected candidates would also be put up on the IISER Pune website.


Q9.  Will I be provided a stipend?

Yes, IISER Pune will provide a stipend of Rs. 10,000/- per month for the duration of the coursework. On successful completion of the coursework, stipend would be raised to comply with existing UGC-CSIR norms.


Q10.  Can I apply to more than one discipline?

Yes, we encourage applicants to apply to more than one disciplines. Please note that you will be evaluated seperately for each discipline.


Q11.  Will I get a confirmationon submitting an online application?

Yes, the online application software will send you confirmation of receipt of your application. In the event you do not receive such intimation, please go to http://jobs.iiserpune.ac.in/integrated-phd/applicant/retrieve-email and enter your application number and e-mail address for a confirmation to be    resent to you.
