About Dr. Pinaki Talukdar

I completed my bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) in chemistry from University of Calcutta (1998) and masters degree (M.S.) from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (2001). I did my Ph.D. at University of Geneva, Switzerland in the area of synthetic ion channels (2001-2005). Subsequently, I did my postdoc research at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, USA in the field of transmembrane ion transport (2005-2006).

I started my professional career at Albany Molecular Research Inc. (AMRI) in Hyderabad as Senior Research Scientist (2006-2007). Then I worked at Dr. Reddy's Institute of Life Sciences in Hyderabad as Senior Research Scientist (2007-2009).

I joined Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune in 2009 as Assistant Professor. From July 2015, I am working at the same institute as Associate Professor.

Research Areas

We are a group of chemists working at the intersections of organic synthesis, supramolecular chemistry and biology. Our major specialty is organic synthesis, which we apply in the construction of complex self-assembled structures, and development of biosensors.

My lab is interested in designing functional molecules for diverse applications in biology and chemistry. In the area of synthetic chemistry, we are developing new organic synthetic methodologies. These methodologies are applied for small molecule natural and nonnatural product libraries. We also design, synthesize and evaluate organic molecules for self-assembly and molecular recognition studies. Presently, we are developing synthetic ion channels and transporters for supramolecular chemistry and biology applications. We are also designing fluorescent probes for the detection of biologically relevant species.
