Arya Thampi wins Dr. Manmohan Singh Scholarship of Cambridge University

Arya Thampi, a 2010 batch BS-MS student of IISER Pune, has won this year’s Dr. Manmohan Singh Scholarship. The scholarship was instituted in 2008 by St. John’s College at University of Cambridge, U.K. in the honor of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who is a distinguished alumnus of the college. It is given to outstanding students to pursue higher studies in Economics, Science and Technology, and Social Sciences. The scholarship includes academic fees, travel costs, a monthly stipend, and a U.K. Visa. Arya is the 20th recipient of this scholarship and will be pursuing her PhD in Optoelectronics at Cambridge. She will be working with Dr. Akshay Rao on improving efficiency of solar cells using ultrafast Spectroscopy. Arya is the second student from IISER Pune to win this prestigious scholarship. Last year, Rohit Chikkaraddy another BS-MS student from the 2009 batch had won the award. Congratulations and best wishes to Arya for her career.
