Admission to PhD programme for the August 2019 session
Students are eligible to apply for the August 2019 session if they fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria listed below.
General information:
Note that the PhD programme for August 2019 session starts on 1st August, 2019.
Admission will be based on the performance during a personal interview. Additional criteria well beyond the minimum eligibility criteria will be used for shortlisting the candidates to be called for personal interview.
Minimum eligibility criteria:
(1A) Minimum 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in majoring subject) or CGPA 6 out of 10 point scale (55% or equivalent CGPA in aggregate for SC/ST and PD candidates) with a Master’s degree in physics. Students in the final year of MSc, and students with a B.Tech/B.E in Engineering Physics, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science are also eligible to apply. Integrated BS-MS degree satisfying the above criteria of marks can also apply.
(1B) In addition, the candidate MUST have any one of the following :
(a) Qualified National Eligibility Test (NET) with valid CSIR-JRF/UGC-JRF score, or GATE, JEST rank up to 200. The scores/ranks MUST be valid on the date of start of the Ph.D programme.
(b) INSPIRE-Ph.D. fellowship (should possess provisional selection letter at the time of personal interview)
OR
(2) Integrated BS-MS dual degree from any of the IISERs with CGPA >= 8.0.

The above is for the second round of admissions (interviews in June 2019) to the PhD programme in Physics for the August 2019 session.
