IISER Pune believes that benefits of high-quality science education and infrastructure should not remain restricted to members of the institute.
As an attempt to spread the excitement of science and to make the expertise and facilities at IISER Pune available to the science and education community, we engage in several outreach activities. These encompass social outreach in the local community, capacity building of teachers, making and popularizing simple science toys, and effectively communicating scientific research through various media.
Experiential learning is considered to be a very effective way of learning and understanding science. To encourage its incorporation in classroom practice, Smt. Indrani Balan Science Activity Centre was established as part of CoESME at IISER Pune. A generous donation by the Balan Group from Pune has also contributed to the setting up of the centre.
IISER Pune has established the Science Media Centre to foster and strengthen science communication. We produce high-quality media to communicate science through popular science films, research highlights, and documentaries.
Inspiring India in Research Innovation and STEM Education (iRISE) programme engages with the entire innovation ecosytem including school education, PhD students, industries and academia.
Maharashtra State Development of Educators and Enhancement in Delivery (MS-DEED) Programme engages in capacity building of higher education institute faculty members.
Cipla Foundation - IISER Pune Centre for Chemistry Education and Research has been established to promote experimental learning in the chemical sciences. Established through a generous donation by the Cipla Foundation, the Centre was set up in 2020.
Centre of Excellence in Science and Mathematics Education (CoESME) was established at IISER Pune under Ministry of Education's Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) to carry out educational outreach for strengthening science education in the country.
