on May 12th - Maryam Mirzakhani’s birthday

The idea of Celebrating Women in Mathematics on May 12th - Maryam Mirzakhani’s birthday - was proposed in 2018 by the Women’s Committee of Iranian Mathematical Society and was approved by the hundreds of attendees of (WM)2, the World Meeting for Women in Mathematics. 

The “May 12 initiative group” was created and every year thereafter, many events have been organised worldwide and are available on May12 initiative website. Around 150 events are registered on the May12 website for the 2023 edition. We at IISER Pune in collaboration with the Math Club are joining this carnival too. 

The following Events are currently scheduled: 

• An online talk on the Life and work of Dr. Cristiana De Filippis on May 12th at 2:30 pm IST.
  The first 45 minutes of her talk will be on her research work while the last fifteen minutes  will be devoted to her Mathematical journey. The title of her Research Talk is Quasiconvexity meets non-linear potential theory. The zoom link for the talk will be shared with our usual mailing list. It can also be requested by writing to us if it is not shared with you by email.
• Movie Screening of the film "Olga Ladyzhenskaya" produced and directed by Ekaterina Eremenko. This film was premiered at (WM)^2 in 2022. It's a 30 minutes long documentary film about Olga Aleksandrovna Ladyzhenskaya (1922 –2004) a Russian mathematician. Do join us for a journey through the life of this illustrious mathematician. We also plan to have an engaging discussion about the same in the end.
