To celebrate the dedication of our campus to the Nation by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, President of India, IISER Pune invites you to a Public Lecture by Prof. Shiraz Minwalla, an acclaimed theoretical physicist.

About the speaker: Shiraz Naval Minwalla is Professor in the Department of Theoretical Physics at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai. He graduated from IIT Kanpur and then obtained his Ph.D. at Princeton under the guidance of Nathan Seiberg. He worked at Harvard, first as Junior Fellow and then as an Assistant Professor before moving to TIFR. He works in String Theory and Quantum Field Theory. He was awarded the Swarnajayanti Fellowship 2005-06 by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, the ICTP Prize in 2010, the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in 2011, the Infosys Prize in 2013 and more recently, the New Horizons in Physics Prize 2014 by the Fundamental Physics Prize for his “pioneering contributions to the study of string theory and quantum field theory; and in particular his work on the connection between the equations of fluid dynamics and Albert Einstein's equations of general relativity."
