Three days project-based learning experience in molecular genetics 'From leaf to lineage: SSR-marker based genotyping and analysis'

G1 Lab 304, IISER Pune campus

Registrations for a new project-based learning experience in molecular genetics 'From leaf to lineage: SSR-marker based genotyping and analysis' are now open.

This module has been designed ONLY for students currently enrolled in Bachelors in life sciences (F.Y., S.Y., and T.Y.) specifically to combine hands-on guided lab with focus on scientific writing, literature survey and using reference management tools.

Students will analyze diversity in wheat varieties using Simple Sequence Repeat (SSR) marker-based genotyping. They will extract genomic DNA from wheat leaves, set up a gradient PCR assay and analyze the results to create a phylogenetic tree. Alongside this they will also learn primer designing for SSR-markers and using basic bioinformatics tools for tree construction. Students will submit individual reports based on their collective experimental results.

Certificates will be provided after completion of the workshop. Timing will be from 09:00 AM to 06:00 PM on all three days.

1) Workshop Duration: Three days (Friday; Saturday; and Sunday)

2) For whom: Students currently enrolled in F.Y., S.Y. or T.Y. B.Sc (Life Sciences)
