Bhatnagar Prize to Dr Saikrishnan Kayarat

Dr Saikrishnan Kayarat, Associate Professor in Biology at IISER Pune, has been selected for CSIR's Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in the area of Biological Sciences for the year 2019.
Dr Kayarat is one of the two winners of the Prize this year in the Biological Sciences discipline. A total of 12 scientists and technologists have been chosen for the 2019 Prize. Complete list of the awardees is here.
The Bhatnagar Prize is announced on September 26 every Saikrishnan Kayarat (2)year on the occasion of CSIR's Foundation Day celebration. Named after founder Director of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) India, the prize recognizes outstanding contributions to science and technology.
Dr Kayarat works on understanding the molecular mechanism of how complex enzymes coordinate their action employing the tools of structural biology, biochemistry and biophysics. His group's studies on an enzyme that can cut DNA have revealed a new mechanism of double-strand DNA-break formation. You can learn more about his work here.
