Prof. Sanjeev Galande wins the G. D. Birla Award

Prof. Sanjeev Galande has won the prestigious G. D. Birla Award for Scientific Research for the year 2014.

Instituted in 1991 by the K. K. Birla Foundation, the award is given in recognition of scientific research of high calibre to Indian scientists below the age of 50 years living and working in the country.  It carries a prize of Rs. 2.50 lakhs. Noted former recipients include Prof. Goverdhan Mehta, Prof. P. Balaram, and Prof. Ashoke Sen among others.

Prof. Galande, professor of Biology and team leader of the Centre of Excellence in Epigenetics at IISER Pune, has been selected as the twenty fourth winner of this award. Prof. Galande works in the area of epigenetics and studies regulation of gene expression, and nuclear organization and function. He uses various model systems to investigate the evolution of epigenetic mechanisms and spatio-temporal regulation of gene expression. Click here to know more about Prof. Galande’s work.
