In the 13th convocation of IISER Pune held on May 29, 2026, a total of 363 students received their degrees. These included 101 students graduating with PhD degree, including 21 with dual Master of Science and PhD degrees, and 4 with Master of Science degree pursued via the Integrated PhD channel; 203 students with BS and MS dual degrees, and 11 with BS degree; and 44 students with a Master of Science degree pursued through the Master’s programme.
Shri Sanjay C. Kirloskar (Chairman and Managing Director, Kirloskar Brothers Limited) was the Chief Guest for the occasion. Shri M. Madan Gopal, IAS (Chairperson, Board of Governors, IISER Pune) presided over the ceremony.
In his address, IISER Pune Director Prof. Sunil Bhagwat informed the gathering of a few recent developments from the institute. He noted the strides being made by IISER Pune Alumni in their chosen fields and urged the graduates to carry on this legacy and a culture of excellence.
Chief Guest Shri Sanjay Kirloskar delivered an inspiring Convocation Address. He said that long-term success is built through disciplined, science-based decision-making and a commitment to societal relevance. IISER Pune Board of Governors Chairperson Shri M. Madan Gopal (IAS) spoke about the achievements of the institute members, the transformation India is witnessing, and encouraged all to be part of nation building.
Degrees were presented to all graduates by IISER Pune Director and Senate Chairperson Prof. Sunil S. Bhagwat.
Chief Guest Shri Sanjay C. Kirloskar presented Best Thesis awards and the Institute Medal. BS-MS student Sujitha Suresh received the Institute Medal as the Best Outgoing Student from the BS-MS programme. Thirteen students, 8 who did Master’s thesis and 5 who did PhD thesis, received Best Thesis awards. PhD students Mamatharani D.V. (Biology), Nahid Hassan (Chemistry), Akashdeep Roy (Humanities and Social Sciences), Prachi Saini (Mathematics), and Ritam Pal (Physics) received the Xytel Best PhD Thesis Awards. BS-MS students Devasthale Neeraj Shriniwas (Biology), R. Karthik (Chemistry), Vatsal Maurya (Data Science), Medha Murti (Earth Science), Sukshith P.H. (Humanities and Social Sciences), Nikhil T.H. (Mathematics), Paritosh Gupta (Physics), and Kavya Vinoy Thaliaparambil (Science Education) received the Xytel Best MS Thesis Awards.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by IISER Pune Registrar Shri Umeshkumar Mote thanking our guests for their presence and acknowledging the efforts of many in organising the event.
