Prof. Jayant B. Udgaonkar is presently a faculty member at the Department of Biology at IISER Pune. A biophysicist with over 30 years of research experience, Prof. Udgaonkar was at the National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bengaluru, prior to joining IISER Pune. Prof. Udgaonkar served as the Director of IISER Pune from November 2017 until April 2023.
Prof. Jayant Udgaonkar’s research is on the problem of protein folding, an area that has inspired biochemists and biophysicists alike for long. Understanding how proteins fold, unfold, and misfold has biotechnological as well as medical implications. His laboratory uses model proteins to address this problem through the tools of protein engineering and physical biochemistry.
