Manickam Jayakannan (JK) has obtained his PhD degree from Indian institute of science, Bangalore, India (2000) and undertook his post-doctoral studies at Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands (2000-2001). He worked as a polymer scientist at JFWTC General Electric R&D (2002), Bangalore and as a scientist at CSIR-NIIST (2003-2007) Trivandrum, prior to joining IISERPune in 2007 as Assistant Professor to embark the journey of building the new academic institute. He is currently continuing as a Professor in the chemistry department.

Research

Synthetic polymers and biomaterials

Synthetic polymer chemistry knowledge is applied to address problems at chemistry-biology interface and efforts are taken to teach and train undergraduate and research students to handle next generation global issues relevant to healthcare. Research programmes are emphasized in designing macromolecular architectures to generate new knowledge and technology in the area of biomaterial science. Students and post docs having excellent academic records are most welcome to join the research group to embark on the journey of “Pursuit of Science in Finding the Truth.”
