DAE Raja Ramanna Fellowship to Prof. Shyam Rai

Prof. Shyam S. Rai, Professor Emeritus, Department of Earth and Climate Science has received the Raja Ramanna Fellowship for this year.

The fellowship, initiated in the year 2000 by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), recognises senior scientists, engineers and technologists involved in developing critical technologies and pursuing high quality research.

A Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar awardee and a Fellow of all three national academies of science of India, Prof. Rai is a geophysicist working in the area of geoelectromagnetism and tectono-physics. His research uses seismological data to explore the earth’s structure and the processes in its interior. He works on computerised tomography and geophysical data modelling of deep earth to investigate stress and earthquake dynamics.

Previously, Prof. Satishchanda Ogale has also received the Raja Ramanna Fellowship from IISER Pune.
