Ph.D. Programme in Mathematics - August 2024
Minimum Eligibility Criteria:
Students with minimum 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in majoring subject) or an equivalent C.G.P.A on a 10-point scale (55% or an equivalent C.G.P.A in aggregate for SC, ST and PD candidates) in any Master’s degree or B.E., B. Tech. in related branches satisfying the above criteria of marks can apply.
If a candidate has successfully completed a 4-year bachelor's degree (e.g., BS, B.Tech), it is appropriate to indicate "Not Applicable" in the Masters field, denoting that the candidate has not pursued a master's degree.
Additionally, the candidate MUST satisfy any ONE of the following criteria:
- Appeared for NBHM Ph.D. written exam in 2024 and was shortlisted in NBHM Doctoral Interview Shortlist (DIS).
- Qualified National Eligibility Test (NET) with valid* CSIR-JRF/UGC-JRF in Mathematics or Computer Science and Applications.
- Valid* GATE rank (Rank up to 60 for unreserved category candidates, and up to 75 for reserved category candidates) in Mathematics or Computer Science and Information Technology.
- BS-MS/Masters students from any of the Institutes of National Importance with a CGPA 8 or above on a 10-point scale are exempted from national-level test eligibility related criteria.

For all the national eligibility examinations which provide a common rank / score, the cut-off rank / score for shortlisting for the Interviews for the reserved categories shall be lowered to 1.25 times the General category rank / score.
Shortlisted applicants will have to clear a two-stage written examination to be held on the IISER Pune campus. Students clearing the written examinations will be called for an online interview. Candidates who clear the NBHM DIS interviews (Feb-March 2024) and hold a valid NBHM scholarship do not have to take the written examination and would be directly invited for the online interview.
