BS-MS Programme | PhD Programme
BS-MS Programme: For International Students
IISER Pune encourages international students to apply for the IISER Pune's BS-MS Programme starting August 2025. International students are recruited via two streams:
- Direct admission to IISER Pune: Visit the central IISER Admissions portal here for more details including relevant dates, eligibility criteria and more.
- Through the Ministry of Education-supported 'Study in India' Programme: Details on eligibility criteria and application process are described below.
Eligibility
a) Minimum 60% marks in the standard 12th
b) SAT score above 1000
c) An Interview will be conducted by the institute.
Please note:
Only nationals of countries other than India can apply for this programme.
** Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) students who have obtained their qualifying degrees ( 10+2 or equivalent, Bachelors, and Masters) in India can apply.
Application Process
Students may submit their applications through the Study in India portal at any time of the year. The institute will evaluate all applications and shortlist eligible candidates for interviews before the commencement of the August admission cycle each year.
Information regarding interview dates, schedules, and other relevant updates will be made available on the SII portal as well as on the link provided below.
Fees

Accommodation
On a sharing basis at the IISER Pune hostel.
Number of seats
5 students per academic year
The last date for submitting applications through Study in India programme is June 30, 2026.
The online interviews of the eligible short listed candidates will be scheduled in the 1st week/ 2nd week of July 2026.
PhD Programmes: For International Students
IISER Pune encourages international students to apply for the IISER Pune's PhD Programme, starting August 2022. International students are recruited via two streams:
- Direct admission in IISER Pune
- Through the Ministry of Education-supported 'Study in India' Programme: Registration link
Eligibility
Only nationals of countries other than India can apply for this programme. At the time of admission, the applicants for the PhD programme must have completed a 4-year undergraduate degree or a master’s degree from an institution located outside India.
** Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) students who have obtained their qualifying degrees ( 10+2 or equivalent, Bachelors, and Masters) in India can apply through the regular departmental admission portal here.
Application Process
Applications are now invited for the session commencing from August 2025. Please apply by writing to us at international.phd@acads.iiserpune.ac.in with a cover letter, CV, research statement, scan of information pages of passport, transcripts and three letters of recommendation. Do indicate your nationality and describe your academic track record in your CV. In your cover letter, indicate the Department (Biology, Chemistry, Data Science, Earth and Climate Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics, Physics) of your interest along with names of specific research groups in IISER Pune that are close to your research interest.
The last date for international students to submit applications for the PhD programme is June 30, 2026.
Selection
Selection will be based on pre-screening, followed by an interview process with multiple rounds. The process will be defined by individual departments and communicated to the applicants in advance. Where possible, interviews will be conducted by video conference.
Funding
- Six International PhD Fellowships, at par with IISER Fellowships, may be available.
- Tuition fee waiver may be given for meritorious students facing financial hardships.
