Dr. Arvind Natu has been appointed as a member of the IISER Standing Committee, which was set up originally in 2016 in order to have a focused approach on the issues specific to IISERs and to make suitable recommendations to the NITSER Council. The reconstituted committee was announced on September 27, 2024.
The IISER Standing Committee is chaired by the Minister of Education, with the Secretary (Higher Education) as the vice-chairperson, and includes Directors of all IISERs, the Director of IISc, and the DST Secretary along with field/subject experts. Ministry officials, Joint Secretary (TE) and Director (IISERs), are also members of the Committee.
Dr. Natu has been associated with IISER Pune since its inception and has been extensively involved with outreach activities and infrastructure development at the institute. At IISER Pune, Dr. Natu held the position of Visiting faculty and is presently an Honorary Consultant for the institute. Prior to that, Dr Natu was a Senior Scientist at CSIR- National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, with research interests in combinatorial and bio-organic chemistry and biology in drug discovery. He is a recipient of the German ‘Cross of Merit’ which is conferred to foreign nationals by the Government of Germany, and many other awards and distinctions.
