Fire incident on campus

A fire broke out today in a chemistry laboratory of the Main Building of IISER Pune on the second floor around 12 noon. By around 2:30 pm, the fire was brought under control. We thank fire brigades from Pune Municipal Corporation, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, and DRDO's High Energy Materials Research Laboratory for their timely help and hard work in putting the fire out.
 
The building was evacuated immediately after the fire broke out. There are no casualties. A student sustained minor injury on his hands and has been attended to with first-aid. The student is doing fine.
 
The extent of damage to research labs is being assessed. The institute shall appoint a committee to investigate the incident.
 
We thank all our institute members and staff from CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory for all their efforts in responding to the emergency. We would also like to thank Pune City Police for their help and cooperation.
