iRISE's Teacher Development programme: Phase-II workshop for teachers from Bihar

The iRISE project has been conducting teacher development workshops across the state of Maharashtra, and more recently in the state of Bihar. Currently, iRISE is building a cadre of Innovation Champions (ICs) to conduct similar teacher development training at the district level.

In the programme, the first batch of Bihar Education Project Council (BEPC) Innovation champions were trained through a 10 day-long residential workshop (Phase II), held at IISER Pune from January 05-14, 2023. There were a total of 78 participants, which included 63 teachers and 15 DIET officers.

With six batches of cascade workshops done at the district level, iRISE is fortifying the strength of Innovation Champions to carry out the humongous exercise of reaching the state's 38 districts.

iRISE hosted a second batch of shortlisted 69 teachers (25 women and 44 men) to participate in a Phase II workshop held during April 19-28, 2023 at IISER Pune. The teachers interacted with the faculty members at IISER Pune and participated in interactive STEM modules.

About iRISE

Inspiring India in Research Innovation and STEM Education (iRISE) is a collaborative programme between the Department of Science and Technology (DST), IISER Pune, the British Council, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and Tata Technologies.

The programme supports the Government of India's objective of building and nurturing an ecosystem that promotes research and innovation in schools and universities. In addition, the iRISE programme provides a platform for industry and academic leaders to come together and strengthen innovation in India. The iRISE programme has four strands, these are: Teacher Development Strand, Early Career Researchers Strand, Thought Leadership Forum and the CxO Forum. The Teachers Development Strand aims to engage teachers and students to develop various skills and competencies for STEM, innovation and experiential learning at the grassroots level by enriching the DST's flagship programme, INSPIRE Awards - MANAK. The MANAK scheme aims to target one million original ideas or innovations rooted in science and societal applications to foster a culture of creativity and innovative thinking among students.
