MoU with India Meteorological Department

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between IISER Pune and India Meteorological Department, Government of India on August 4, 2023.

At the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between IISER Pune and India Meteorological Department: (Left to Right): Dr. Gyana Ranjan Tripathy (Chairperson of the Department of Earth and Climate Science, IISER Pune); Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra (Director General of Meteorology, India Meteorological Department); Prof. Sunil S. Bhagwat (Director, IISER Pune); and Dr. K.S. Hosalikar (Head, IMD Pune)

Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra (Director General of Meteorology, India Meteorological Department) and Prof. Sunil S. Bhagwat (Director, IISER Pune) signed the MoU on behalf of the two institutions. A delegation from the India Meteorological Department Pune and members from the Earth and Climate Science department were also present at the occasion.

The main objective of this MoU is to bring together the complementary expertise of the two institutions to advance our understanding of extreme events, improve human resources in the field of weather and climate and to generate socially and scientifically useful knowledge about Indian climate. The MoU will facilitate development of joint research projects and mentoring of students as well as participation in training and workshops.

The delegation from IMD visited the research laboratories at the Earth and Climate Science department at IISER Pune and and interacted with our researchers.
