Dr. Surabhi Jaiswal did her PhD from Institute for Plasma Research (IPR) Gandhinagar Gujarat. After receiving her PhD in 2017, she received the prestigious DAAD fellowship to pursue postdoctoral research at German Aerospace Center (DLR) Germany. She also worked at Auburn University as a postdoc and at Princeton University as a research associate. Before joining IISER Pune, Dr. Jaiswal was tenure track Assistant Professor at Eastern Michigan University USA.
Low temperature plasma in lab and microgravity condition
My research in experimental plasma physics focuses on fundamental discoveries of dusty plasma and utilizing it to applications relevant to space technologies and material industry. We develop and employ a wide range of advanced techniques combined with theoretical models to characterize nonlinear structures suitable for detecting small size orbital space debris, complex plasma behavior in highly magnetized environments, and nanoparticle growth suitable for the semiconductor industry. These experiments involve laboratory-based studies and microgravity complex plasma at the International Space Station (ISS). We are also developing multiple low temperature plasma sources to understand auroral physics in the open atmosphere, lunar dust properties, and plasma chemistry for a range of applications including ammonia synthesis and plasma enhanced catalysis mainly for green energy production.
