Admission to the Masters (MS) program in Quantum Technology

IISER Pune invites online applications for the 2-year MS degree program in Quantum Technology for the session starting in August 2026.

 

Eligibility and admissions criteria

The candidate should have a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage at the end of the semesters, not only in the major subject. Also see * below ) or a minimum CGPA of 6 on a 10 point scale (minimum 55% or equivalent CGPA in aggregate for SC, ST and PwD/VH candidates) in the Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Sciences with specialisation as indicated below.

 

Pathway 1

B.Tech / B.E in Aerospace, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics/Communications, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Engineering Physics or closely related areas from a recognized institution

&

The candidate should have cleared the GATE examination with subject codes PH, EE, EC, IN, MA, ST, CS, DA, ME. Candidates must hold a rank that will be valid in August 2026.

 

or

 

Pathway 2

B.Sc/M.Sc/integrated BS-MS in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Materials science, Electronics/instrumentation or a related discipline from a recognized institution

&

The candidate should have qualified in the JAM examination with one of the following subject codes only: MS, MA, PH. Candidates must hold a rank that will be valid in August 2026.

 

*Candidates currently in the final year of their qualifying degree are eligible to apply. If they are offered admission, then it will be subject to fulfilling all of the qualifying criteria at the time of admissions.

 

Additional criteria, beyond the eligibility criteria, may be imposed when selecting students for admission to the program.

 

Reservation of seats: Admission process will follow the seat reservations applicable to OBC-NCL, SC/ST, EWS and PwD categories as prescribed by the Government of India.

 

Application Process

1. Only online applications will be accepted. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
2. The candidates must carefully fill and submit the online application form on or before

April 15, 2026.

3. Please note that a standard non-refundable application fee applies to all applications.
4. Applications which satisfy the eligibility criteria will be screened based on the exam ranks, there will not be any interviews for the program.

3. Relaxation of eligibility criteria for SC, ST and PwD applicants will be as per Government of India norms. Candidates belonging to the reserved category will have to submit relevant original certificates if selected.
4. Applying does not automatically guarantee that a candidate will be selected.
5. Any incorrect claims or submission of incorrect documents in the application form will lead to the candidate being disqualified from the admission process, or cancellation of admission if it was detected at any later stage.
6. Admission is provisional until verification of all documents. If the candidate is found to not satisfy the eligibility criteria at the time of admissions the admission will be cancelled.

Admission to PhD Program for the August 2026 Batch

IISER Pune invites online applications for the PhD program in Physics for the session starting in August 2026.

 

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate should have a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in the majoring subject) or a CGPA of 6 on a 10 point scale (55% or equivalent CGPA in aggregate for SC, ST, and PwD/VH candidates) in MSc or four-year BTech/BE/BS,

and

The candidate should mandatorily satisfy at least one of the following (mandatory) criteria:

(a) Qualified National Eligibility Test (NET) with a score in the CSIR-JRF/UGC-JRF category, valid at the time of admissions in August 2026.

OR

(b) Holds a rank equal to 500 or better (625 or better for candidates in the reserved categories) in GATE-2026 or JEST-2025 PhD Physics. This rank should be valid at the time of admission in August 2026.

OR

(c) Holds an INSPIRE-PhD fellowship (The candidate should possess a provisional selection letter for PhD fellowship at the time of the interview.)

OR

(d) Has an Integrated BS-MS dual degree from any of the IISERs or an equivalent Master's degree in Physics from an Institute of National Importance with a CGPA greater than or equal to 8 on a scale of 10 (or equivalent).

(Students currently in the final year of the eligible programs are welcome to apply. If the candidate is shortlisted after the final interview, a provisional admission will be offered. The final admission will be subject to the condition that all of the above eligibility criteria are satisfied.)

 

Note that additional criteria beyond eligibility will likely be applied when shortlisting candidates for the interview.

 

 

Interview

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to appear for an interview to be conducted in person (Dates for the interviews will be announced on the IISER Pune website). The final selection to the program will be based on the candidate's performance in the interview.

Admission to Integrated PhD Program for the August 2026 Batch

 

IISER Pune invites online applications for the Integrated PhD (IPhD) program in Physics for the session starting in August 2026.

 

Eligibility Criteria

 

The candidate should have a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in the majoring subject) or a CGPA  of 6 on a 10-point scale (55% or equivalent CGPA in aggregate for SC, ST, and PwD/VH candidates) in BSc/BTech/BE,

 

and

 

The candidate should have a rank equal to 500 or better (625 or better for candidates in the reserved categories) in JAM (Physics)-2026 or JEST IPhD (Physics)-2025. The rank should be valid at the time of admission in August 2026.

 

(Students currently in the final year of their BSc/BTech/BE programs are welcome to apply. If the candidate is shortlisted after the final interviews, a provisional admission will be offered. The final admission is subject to the condition that all of the above eligibility criteria are satisfied.)
