Admission to PhD Program for the January 2026 Batch

 

IISER Pune invites online applications for the PhD program in Physics for the session starting in January 2026. The research groups of the following faculty members have vacancies for this round. Therefore, before applying, students should check the research interests of the faculty members listed below.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate should have a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in the majoring subject) or a CGPA of 6 on a 10 point scale (55% or equivalent CGPA in aggregate for SC, ST and PwD/VH candidates) in MSc or four-year BTech/BE/BS. The qualifying degree should be completed by the time of admissions in January 2026.

and

the candidate should have qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) with a score in the CSIR-JRF/UGC-JRF category, valid at the time of admissions in January 2026.

Note that additional criteria, beyond the above eligibility criteria, is likely to be imposed when shortlisting candidates for interview.

 

Interview

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to appear for an interview to be conducted in-person (Dates for the interviews will be announced on the IISER Pune website). The final selection to the program will be based on the candidate's performance in the interview.

Admission to the Masters (MS) program in Quantum Technology

IISER Pune invites online applications for the 2-year MS degree program in Quantum Technology for the session starting in August 2025.

 

Eligibility and admissions criteria

The candidate should have a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not just in the majoring subject) or a minimum CGPA of 6 on a 10 point scale (minimum 55% or equivalent CGPA in aggregate for SC, ST and PwD/VH candidates) in the Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Sciences with specialisation as indicated below.

 

B.Tech / B.E in Aerospace, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics/Communications, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mechanical, Instrumentation, or Engineering Physics from a recognized institution

&

The candidate should have cleared the GATE exam with subject codes PH, EE, EC, IN, MA, ST, CS,DA. Candidate must hold a rank valid for the year 2025.

 

or

 

B.Sc/M.Sc/integrated BS-MS in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Materials science, Electronics/instrumentation or a related discipline from a recognized institution

The candidate should have qualified in the JAM 2025 exam with one of the following subject codes only : MS, MA, PH. Candidates must hold a rank valid for the year 2025.

 

Candidates currently in the final year of their qualifying degree are eligible to apply. If they are offered admission, then it will be subject to fulfilling all the qualifying criteria.

 

Additional criteria, beyond the eligibility criteria, may be imposed when selecting students for admission to the programme.

 

Reservation of seats : Admission process will follow the seat reservations applicable to OBC-NCL, SC/ST, EWS and PwD categories as prescribed by the Government of India.

  1. Only online applications will be accepted. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
  2. The candidates must carefully fill and submit the online application form on or before 05.00PM Apr 15, 2025.

Admission to Integrated PhD Program for the August 2025 Batch

 

IISER Pune invites online applications for the Integrated PhD (IPhD) program in Physics for the session starting in August 2025.

 

Eligibility Criteria

 

The candidate should have a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in the majoring subject) or a CGPA  of 6 on a 10 point scale (55% or equivalent CGPA in aggregate for SC, ST and PwD/VH candidates) in BSc/BTech/BE,

 

and

 

The candidate should have a rank equal to 500 or better (625 or above for candidates in the reserved categories) in JAM (Physics) or JEST IPhD (Physics). The rank should be valid at the time of admission in August 2025.

 

(Students currently in the final year of their BSc/BTech/BE programs are welcome to apply. If the candidate is shortlisted after the final interviews a provisional admission will be offered. The final admission is subject to the condition that all of the above eligibility criteria are satisfied.)

 

Note that additional criteria beyond the eligibility criteria are likely to be imposed while shortlisting candidates for the interview.
