Masters' Programmes in Chemistry, Geology, and Mathematics

The two-year Master of Science (MSc) programme at IISER Pune is a new programme, launched in the Academic year 2022-2023. Visit this page for a general overview of the programme.

Admissions to the MSc Programme in Chemistry - August 2026

Areas of study

Organic Chemistry, Biological chemistry, Chemical biology, Organometallic chemistry, Main group chemistry, Transition metal chemistry, Electrochemistry, Materials Chemistry, Catalysis, Spectroscopy, Quantum chemistry, Computational chemistry, Theoretical chemistry, etc.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Students with a minimum of 60% marks overall percentage (not only in majoring subject) OR an equivalent C.G.P.A on a 10-point scale (For SC, ST, and PwD candidates, 55% overall percentage or an equivalent C.G.P.A on a 10-point scale) in BSc or an equivalent degree with Chemistry as one of the main subjects.

AND

  1. Qualified JAM 2026 (Chemistry). The rank must be valid at the time of admission. Candidates will be shortlisted based on JAM rank.

Candidates in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply. However, their final selection is subject to their successful completion of the Bachelor’s degree with the above-mentioned requirements at the time of admission.

  1. Only online applications will be accepted. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
  2. The candidates must carefully fill and submit the online application form on or before April 30, 2026.
  3. After the last date, all applications will be screened and the list of candidates will be released.
  4. Kindly note that a standard non-refundable application fee applies to all programme applications.

MS in Mathematics and Computing Programme – August 2026

IISER Pune invites applications from highly motivated students for admission to the Master of Science (MS) in Mathematics and Computing programme for the session August 2026. For details on the programme and course structure, visit

Minimum Eligibility Criteria:

Minimum 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in the majoring subject) or an equivalent C.G.P.A. on a 10-point scale (55% or an equivalent C.G.P.A. on a 10-point scale in aggregate for SC, ST, and PWD candidates) in B.Sc. in any specialisation or B.Tech.

Candidates in the final year of their Bachelor's degree are also eligible to apply. However, their final selection is subject to their successful completion of the Bachelor's degree with the above-mentioned requirements at the time of admission.

Application and Selection Process:

  1. Only online applications will be accepted. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
  2. The candidates must carefully fill out and submit the online application form on or before 20th March, 2026 at 05.00PM.
  3. Selection to the programme will be based on an MCQ-based admission test scheduled for Saturday, 4th April 2026, from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, at the IISER Pune campus.
  4. After the application deadline, all the applications will be screened, and a list of candidates shortlisted for the written test will be released. Details regarding the venue of the admission test and reporting time will be announced at that time.
  5. Based on the performance in the admission test, the final list of candidates selected for the programme will be released in due time.

Admission to the Masters (MS) program in Quantum Technology

IISER Pune invites online applications for the 2-year MS degree program in Quantum Technology for the session starting in August 2026.

 

Eligibility and admissions criteria

The candidate should have a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage at the end of the semesters, not only in the major subject. Also see * below ) or a minimum CGPA of 6 on a 10 point scale (minimum 55% or equivalent CGPA in aggregate for SC, ST and PwD/VH candidates) in the Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Sciences with specialisation as indicated below.

 

Pathway 1

B.Tech / B.E in Aerospace, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics/Communications, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Engineering Physics or closely related areas from a recognized institution

&

The candidate should have cleared the GATE examination with subject codes PH, EE, EC, IN, MA, ST, CS, DA, ME. Candidates must hold a rank that will be valid in August 2026.

Pathway 2

B.Sc/M.Sc/integrated BS-MS in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Materials science, Electronics/instrumentation or a related discipline from a recognized institution

&

The candidate should have qualified in the JAM examination with one of the following subject codes only: MS, MA, PH. Candidates must hold a rank that will be valid in August 2026.

 

*Candidates currently in the final year of their qualifying degree are eligible to apply. If they are offered admission, then it will be subject to fulfilling all of the qualifying criteria at the time of admissions.

 

Additional criteria, beyond the eligibility criteria, may be imposed when selecting students for admission to the program.

 

Reservation of seats: Admission process will follow the seat reservations applicable to OBC-NCL, SC/ST, EWS and PwD categories as prescribed by the Government of India.
