Dr. Krishanpal Karmodiya from the Department of Biology at IISER Pune has been honoured with ‘Dr. B.N. Singh Memorial Oration Award’ by the Indian Society for Parasitology (ISP). The award was given to Dr. Karmodiya at the 33rd National Congress of Parasitology on Recent Advances in Parasite Biology and Drug Discovery held during November 26-28, 2025 at CDRI, Lucknow.
This year’s ISP meeting was of particular significance as it marked the Golden Jubilee of the Society, which has served as a premier national platform for advancing parasitology research for the past five decades.
Dr. B.N. Singh Memorial Oration Award is conferred in recognition of outstanding contributions to parasitology research, and Dr. Karmodiya delivered an invited talk at the conference as part of this honour.
Dr. Karmodiya’s group's research is on understanding drug resistance in Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite responsible for malaria. His group's research has focused on the cellular and genetic determinants of resistance to artemisinin, a critical drug in malaria treatment.
