Dr. Venketeswara R. Pai from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences has been honoured with the Satish Bhatnagar Award for the year 2024 by the Indian Mathematical Society (IMS).
The Satish Bhatnagar Award has been instituted by the Indian Mathematical Society to recognise the best research paper in the area of the History of Mathematics in India. This award acknowledges exceptional scholarly contributions that deepen our understanding of the historical developments in Indian mathematics.
Dr. Venketeswara Pai works on the history and development of astronomy and mathematics in India. As part of this, Dr. Pai studies and analyses the source material pertaining to this area, in Sanskrit and in Malayalam. Dr. Pai's research paper titled "Use of the concept of derivative in the computation of vyatīpāta in two Kerala texts" published in the Indian Journal of History of Science (Volume 58, pages 157–170) earned him this award.
