Prof. Rajesh Gokhale appointed as Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology

Prof. Rajesh Gokhale, Professor in Biology at IISER Pune, has been appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology. He will succeed Dr. Renu Swarup who has been in this role since 2018. Prof. Gokhale's appointment will be for a period of two years.

To wish Prof. Gokhale on this occasion, a felicitation ceremony was organised at the institute today where Director Prof. Jayant Udganonkar wished Prof. Gokhale on behalf of the IISER Pune community.

Prior to joining IISER Pune in September this year, Prof. Gokhale was at the National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi and had earlier served as the Director of CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB), Delhi. Prof. Gokhale's research is in the area of immunology in the context of understanding the infectious disease tuberculosis. Prof. Gokhale's work has been recognised through several awards including the Infosys Prize in Life Sciences in 2013 and Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Biological Sciences in 2006.
