Dr. Pooja Sancheti, faculty member in the Humanities and Social Sciences Department, has won the Rajendra Yadav Hans Anudit Katha Samman '23 for Best Translated Story. The award ceremony took place on August 28, 2023 at India International Centre, New Delhi.
"Hans" is among the oldest and most prestigious literary magazines in the Hindi language. Established by Munshi Premchand in 1930, Hans also had Mahatma Gandhi as an advisor on its editorial board. The magazine was revived in 1986 by Rajendra Yadav, a noted short-story writer and novelist, who was its editor for many decades. Dr. Pooja Sancheti received this award for her Hindi translation, titled "Tasveerein", of "The Photographs", a short story written in English by Bhutanese writer Kunzang Choden. The translation has appeared in the March 2023 issue of Hans magazine.
Dr. Sancheti's research at IISER Pune is in the areas of postcolonial literature, South Asian literature, postmodernist fiction, literary theory, and magical realism.
